How It Started
My name is Autumn and I am the founder/creator of Flickering Feline Candle Co! I picked up candle making in February 2023 after a friend invited me over to make candles using a kit. We didn’t really know what we were doing, but it was so much fun that I had to learn more about it! I didn’t realize at the time just how complicated it is to make one good candle. Candle making is the perfect balance between a science and an art, and I quickly fell in love with it.
From there, I found candle makers and content creators who had turned their candles into a business and thought – why not try? Since then, I’ve learned a lot about business management, packaging/shipping, brand design, pop-up events, ecommerce, and so much more! Learning to wear so many different hats is difficult but rewarding.
In September of 2024, I left graduate school and am now working full time in a job I enjoy. I am working hard to maintain my business while balancing this full time workload, as many small business owners do!
Why Cat-Themed Candles?
I’ve always loved cats and think they are quite intriguing, inspiring, and expressive (and of course, very lovable). When I got into candle making, I had the idea to create fragrances based on all the moods and behaviors of cats. Although translating cat behaviors into fragrances can be a tricky and abstract process, I’ve had so much fun with it and hope that my candles will resonate with cat and candle lovers alike! When I work on a fragrance, I begin with a cat theme/concept in mind and develop the fragrance around that concept. You can read about the themes/concepts on the website in the product descriptions.
And of course, my partner and I’s cat, Nova (as in Supernova), is always an unending source of inspiration <3
What Does the Future Hold?
Although I can't say for sure, I do have a lot of ideas!
My biggest long-term goal is to add more art to my business. Because each fragrance is cat-inspired, I'd like to create a mascot cat for each fragrance to visually convey the themes. So far, two candles I've made have featured my art on the labels - Witch's Familiar (available year-round) and Tree Topper (holiday limited time).
In 2025, my time has been taken by my full time job and other things in my personal life, so I've been exploring ways to keep the business going even though I don't have as much time or energy for it. I truly appreciate everyone who has supported me. Thank you for stopping by!
